PRESENTATION BEFORE CCFG AND EARLY BEGINNINGS OF PERÚCAN-OH

In Cleveland, Ohio, after some months of meetings, and efforts to get together and come together as an organization, from the Summer of 2021 to the Summer 2022. These included recruiting new members for our Board, filing the necessary paperwork to register in the State of Ohio, opening our first bank account, and launching this Website. In May 2022 we put together a proposal and in September same year, we were invited to present it before CCFG to petition a Garden for Perú. Our presentation was successful and PERÚCAN-OH was formally and unanimously approved by the Board of CCFG, on September 27, 2022, as a sponsor of a Garden for Perú, to be located along Martin Luther King Blvd.

Our First Flag Parade @ OWD 2019

For the first time in 2019, the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation, invited country delegations to participate in OWD Flag Parade, including country delegations without a garden.  Our Peruvian community leaders signed up and got together to organize our participation. Raíces del Perú (Mary Vargas) provided her beautiful Peruvian costume collections.  Our first Flag Parade was a joyous event and we had over 30 volunteers proudly parading in ethnic costumes. This was the beginning of our work to organize ourselves as a Peruvian cultural group and gave us the motivation to start working on formally registering as a nonprofit organization with the State of Ohio. In 2020 there was no parade, due to Covid19.

The Coas

Perú is located on the Pacific Ocean. The city of Lima, our Capital, is the only one in South America with a Coastal Border. We have beautiful beaches, North to South of Perú, and one of the richest sources of fish and seafood in the world.  North of Perú, we have the Chicama beach, a world renown surfing paradise that boasts the longest wave of the world, stretching up to 4 Km.  The coast includes rich valleys formed by rivers that come from the Andes mountains and provide the best conditions to grow wine and pisco grapes, among other produce. The coast also includes the Nazca Lines, deserts, volcanoes, and the only oasis in South America, the Laguna de Huacachina.

The Sierra is the Andean highland region, formed by three of the Andes mountain ranges and separates the Coast from the Rainforest. It has many fertile river valleys, high plains, and deep canyons, i.e. Colca Canyon, the second deepest in the world. The altitude and proximity to the Andes impact on the lifestyle and traditions of its population. In the Sierra you can find colorful festivals, archaeological sites, beautiful cities, you can see llamas, alpacas, the giant condor of the Andes, and important cultural elements from the Inca civilization. Its altitude can reach over 6,700 mt above sea level.
